Hugo Coffee Roasters supports and partners with various rescues; however, one partner we’re proud to highlight today is the Best Friends Animal Society. They’re an animal rescue organization that shares our love for protecting and advocating for animals.

About Best Friends Animal Society

The Best Friends Animal Society is a no-kill animal rescue dedicated to giving cats and dogs second chances to find homes. Their mission is to end the senseless killing of animals in shelters due to overpopulation.

Best Friends began in 1984, created by 31 people with a passion for helping abused and abandoned animals. While animal care was in each of their backgrounds, they wanted to create a place that would continue to help save innocent pets.

From there, Best Friends Animal Society was born. Since its founding, they’ve helped reduce the kill rate in American animal shelters by around 91%.

The Rescue Process

Animals rescued at Best Friends Animal Society come from all different backgrounds. Regardless of if they were strays, abused, or unable to be taken care of, Best Friends took them in.

Through the help of foster families and caring staff, they’re able to heal these animals emotionally and physically. When taken in, animals will receive medical care and all the resources they need before finding their forever homes.

Sailor’s Story

Best Friends rescues and rehabilitates thousands of dogs in need of loving homes; however, Sailor’s story stands out as a great success for the nonprofit animal rescue organization.

When Sailor arrived at the sanctuary, he was a young dog bursting with energy. Unfortunately, his playful attitude and rambunctious puppy energy made him difficult to train — in combination with the fact that he was deaf.

The team at best friends knew Sailor would need a special home, and it wasn’t long before he found the perfect one with Alison and her partner Lily. Alison, a Speech-Language Pathologist, and Lily being a special education teacher, knew they could handle the challenge of training Sailor.

Fortunately, Sailor settled into his new home and even learned ASL to help with training and commands! Dogs like Sailor receive the care they need every day from Best Friends thanks to generous people just like you!
